Balmoral Tanks partners on global anaerobic digestion projects

Tuesday, 28 June 2016 12:30

Barnsley-based Balmoral Tanks has secured a multi-million pound contract to design and supply 14 tanks for a major AD plant in England and also provide epoxy coated tanks with a capacity of more than 14,000m3 on a project in Hong Kong.

With a product portfolio that includes ‘digestore’® concrete tanks and ‘efusion’® epoxy coated tanks, Balmoral was the carefully chosen partner for the prestigious UK project.

The company’s sales director, Jonathan Smith, said: “Our client chose Balmoral because of our depth of experience in terms of engineering design and end-to-end service. We have a proven track record of performing on projects of scale, from concept to commission, and are very much looking forward to delivering another milestone project for the UK AD industry.”

Balmoral Tanks - a division of Balmoral Group Holdings, an international multi-discipline engineering company - focuses on adding value and how it can support clients through each stage of the tank design, manufacture, installation and commissioning cycle.

Much of these efficiencies are derived from early project meetings with the client and the consulting engineers as Smith concludes: “There is no substitute for structural understanding of tank behaviour and the ability to analyse and calculate detailed design aspects to accepted design codes and standards.

“That’s where we differentiate ourselves and that’s how we help our clients make significant time and money savings.”

Balmoral Tanks was also selected to provide its coated steel wastewater tanks for an organic waste treatment facility in Hong Kong – the first of its kind in the city.

The waste treatment facility will recycle source-separated organic waste into valuable products – including heat, electricity and organic derivatives – while reducing the requirement for landfill disposal. The company’s experience in this highly specialised area placed it as the front runner to provide the tanks on the project.

Balmoral will design, supply, deliver and supervise the installation of four tanks, providing a working capacity of 14,136m3. The largest tanks will measure more than 17m in diameter by 20m in height. All associated roofing, walkways and steelwork will be manufactured and provided by Balmoral.

Exports sales director at Balmoral Tanks, Tom Smith, said: “We worked very closely with our client to determine the most suitable and cost-effective solution for this breakthrough project for the region.

“Because we offer an unrivalled product portfolio, as well as in-house engineering expertise, meaningful discussions at the early stages of the project meant that we helped our client achieve considerable cost savings while taking the responsibility for the tanks’ aspect of the project off their shoulders.

“A result that we are all happy with.”
